On 5th April, 2013, R. L. Institute of Nautical Sciences celebrated the National Maritime Day and laid Wreath to honour those unknown sailors, who had lost their lives at sea. On 29 March, 2013, RLINS celebrated its Annual Sports Day and prize distribution ceremony.
The Chief Guest of the function was Mr. R. Thirunavukarasu, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Madurai. A squad of subordinates accompanied the honorable guest. As a part of the Internship training the institute planned a trip to Andaman Islands by ship for our cadets. Batch of 57 cadets from ME IV departed for Andaman and Nicobar islands. The journey started on 13th February morning from Madurai to Chennai by train. The Officer –in- charge accompanied the cadets. On 14th February 1600 Hrs the cadets boarded the ship, “M.V. NANCOWRY”.

A trip to Andaman by ship was an idea triggered by our management in order to familiarize the cadets with the ship and the nature of the sea. We, 56 cadets accompanied by 2 faculty members, boarded the ship, M.V.NANCOWRY on 31st January 2013 from Chennai port. We sailed for 3 nights to reach Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 3rd February 2013.
