RL institute of Nautical Sciences, Aruppukopttai Road, Madurai celebrated its Annual Sports Meet on 10th April with all opulence and gorgeousness. The cadets and staff members participated in the fest with the motive to keep the legacies of sportsman spirit flying high and sustaining the guts of a true warrior.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Cpt. Rajasekaran, Vice President (Oper
ations) of Sanmar Shipping Limited, Chennai. The event commenced with the lighting of the Olympic Torch. The chief guest and the Principal were guided to the saluting dais escorted by the cadets marching.
The four houses Liners, bulkers, Tankers and Reefers marched with all majesty. The chief guest received and responded to the salute from the saluting dais. After the march past the four house Captains along with the Cadet Captain took the oath. The annual sports meet was declared open after the oath taking.
Amidst the cheer of all cadets the 100 meters flat race was conducted in the presence of the dignitaries and audience. Reefers house emerged as the winners of the Race.
Moments of ecstasy and grandeur filled the grand Pandal erected at the college ground. The sports day celebration started with the ritualistic singing of Vandemataram, followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The Chief Guest lighted the traditional Kuthuvilakku along with the four house captains.
The function started with the high-spirited words of welcome by Mr. M. Subramanian, the Principal of the Institute and also he felicitated the chief guest. He honoured him with his awesome words of appreciation and presented a memento with unrestrained enthusiasm of joy to remember the occasion. This was followed by the speech of Dr. G.R. Balakrishnan the Advisor  Subbulakshmi Lakshmipathy Foundation.
The Institute’s Physical Director, Mr. Ponkumar presented the Annual Sports Report. He briefed about the achievements of the college foot ball team in the league matches conducted by the Madurai Division Foot Ball Association.
The Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour Dr. R. Srinivasan [Principal SLCS] and Dr. G.R. Balakrishnan [Advisor SLF] shared the honour of distributing the prizes and certificates to the winners. Tankers emerged as the best team in the March Past. The overall Championship Trophy was also bagged by the Tankers. Bulkers received the shield for the 1st runners-up.
This was followed by the chief guest’s address. In the past, RLINS has witnessed very few speeches like this one. It was clear, absolutely informal and above all with a lot of warmth. He instructed the safety measures and work culture onboard ships and the importance of sports activities for the fitness in the marine field.
The Vice Principal Capt. Subhendu Hati Presented the vote of thanks and the function came to a curtain drop with the euphonious singing of National Anthem.
